Conversational AI is not a chat box
Natural assistants depend on context, timing, feedback and restraint—not only model quality.
The premise
A chat box is a container. It is not an interaction model. A useful assistant needs to know when to speak, what context it may use and how to recover when it cannot help.
The decision
Streaming, visible status and clear boundaries shape trust as much as the answer. So does restraint: the assistant should not interrupt, invent certainty or hide the cost of sending information to a model.
The standard
The design work lives around the model—in consent, context, feedback, error handling and the path back to a person.
